how it works

Superior Home Kitchen Ventilation Fans

Vent-A-Hood was the first manufacturer of range hoods for household kitchens in North America. The primary component is the premium “Magic Lung” blower that provides three major advantages:

  1. Constant 99% Centrifugal Grease Extraction
  2. The Quietest Ventilation Available
  3. Powerful Blowers Between 300 – 1200 CFM

The canopy design allows for maximized airflow with optimal efficiency, along with the new in-the-shield grease tray makes routine cleaning easier than ever.

Choose from fans that are designed for islands, liner inserts, under cabinets and wall mounts with the option to build a custom fan to best suit your design.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Is the Vent-A-Hood sized appropriately for the type of cooking equipment it is over?

  • The purpose of a hood is to collect cooking contaminants and hold them until the blower unit can exhaust them to the outside. Therefore, it is necessary to size the hood based on the type of cooking equipment that is being used. Whenever possible, hoods should overlap the cooking equipment by at least 3 inches on each side. For an island application this is mandatory. The hood should also project out to the front edge of the front burners. Finally, the height of the hood can affect its performance. Generally speaking, taller hoods are more suitable for professional style ranges, whereas under cabinet hoods are recommended for standard cooking equipment.

How should the Vent-A-Hood duct work be installed?

  • The duct should be smooth walled. Corrugated or flex type duct must not be used as it restricts airflow. The duct work should be the same square inch area (or larger) as the hood discharge for the entire length of the duct run. Run the duct as short and straight as possible. Enlarge the duct for longer duct runs. Maintain 4 to 5 foot spacing between turns. Turns should be smooth and gradual, not sharp and angled. Roof jack and wall louver openings must be free of obstacles, at least as large as the duct size and open freely (not spring-loaded).

How often should I clean my Vent-A-Hood?

  • After frying or any major cooking, the exposed areas should be wiped down with a product like Dawn dish soap and paper towels just like you would the top of your stove.

Should I be using all the motors at full speed?

  • It depends – If you are boiling water, no. If you are doing any frying or major festive cooking, yes.

Does the grease not contaminate the ducting?

  • Not if solid pipe is used as per the manufacturer’s recommendation. The centrifugal extraction system will only send out fumes while retaining grease in the blower box.

What is the average life span of a well used Vent-A-Hood?

  • If you do not keep the blower wheels free of dust and grease buildup, the added weight could shorten the life of a motor that should last beyond 15 years. However, this part can be replaced if you do forget to regularly clean your system.
